The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Orange band--pullet
Brown band--cock

Once they grow, do let us know what the sexes are for real. Some breeder lines it's easier to sex while others are harder to sex.

the girls will have eyeliner and very distinct V's on their heads. The boys will be a little lighter in overall color and may only have a rusty spot behind the eye and very fuzzy V's on the head.

I've found it to be 100% accurate when I hatched chicks from a breeder. Not so accurate when I had hatchery chicks. the last batch I hatched it was very obvious from the moment they fluffed out which were boys and which were girls. The girls had very very distintive v on head and the boys just had a blob of darker feathers in a semi v shape

We just finished hatching out 6 of 8 Welsummer eggs and we think we have 4 girls and 2 boys based on the eyeliner and the V on the top of the head. We did notice on this group that the eyeliner didn't seem as pronounced but the V was. Will try and get some pictures posted. DD and I ended up going to see the doctor late yesterday afternoon as she still wasn't feeling and neither was I, we both have sinus infections and are once again on meds. Tonight we are driving to pick up a new foster dog due to a change in plans of the person transporting her.

Just from looking at the group shot, it looks like you have at least 6 chicks with a distinct V- I did look at the other pictures as my phone doesn't always show so good. Hopefully someone else will pop in and post.

Sorry Cheryl! Was at work early today when you posted that link and I could not view it from my cell phone. I see 7 pullets looking down on them by looking at the "V"......need to see the eyes.
