Congrats!

Sorry Stoopid, her eggs were sitting on the shelf for a good two to three years and no, never had a roo with her to get chicks. I used to have a quad of SSHB but got rid of them when I got into Spitzhaubens. Also she was a bit smaller than any of the SSHB I've had and a very poor egg layer, at her best, she would give me two dozen eggs a year. So she was strictly a pet which that was fine with me.

I have no rooster since spring but hope to find one in the fall for my Welsummer girls. Otherwise I would have to be content just getting them for egg laying. It just one of those disadvantages of living in the city.

Royce.......Sounds like lots of people in WA are going to get some really nice birds! I too prefer the darker hackle/saddle feathers in the wellies. My rooster's hackle/saddle feathers are copper in color and I'm hoping to maintain that. I hatched out a pullet that is a bit lighter in body color than I like, but dang she's got really yellow legs. We'll see how she matures.

Robin.......I'm glad your daughter is doing better. Gretl was a beautiful hen.

While we're sharing pics of babies, here are mine! They are easily the biggest and fattest chicks I've ever hatched.. they came from wonderful eggs from Channing/Grisham/Hall lines. 3 girls and 2 boys! Pictured here at about 24 hours old.
