I got a Wellie yesterday. Her name is Moka (french spelling). She is probably 2-3 weeks old. I'm wondering if her comb is too big for her age (roo?). Thanks.

What colors are the chest feathers? Pullets will have salmon colored chest feathers and cockerals will have black chest feathers. HTH

They are definitely lighter in color, but not salmon colored yet. Thanks.

Thank you. I was thinking that her comb was looking biggish, but I didn't know if that was what the breed is supposed to be like. I had forgotten about the salmon colored feathers in hens. So thanks to those who helped!

What hatchery sells Barnvelders? I haven't had the chance to look at all the hatchery lists this year.

I'm seeing perhaps Brown Leghorns or Partridge Rock.

If you get them from the feed store, in straight run bins, its a gamble, it would have been a cockeral for that size of comb.

Recent pictures would be very nice if you can submit it!

What hatchery sells Barnvelders? I haven't had the chance to look at all the hatchery lists this year.

Well my 2 Wellie breeder roos decided to have a death match this last weekend. The dominant roo lost his position as king of the coop. When I found them going at it they were both covered in mud from the rains we had over the weekend and bloody from head to toe. It's been 2 days since the fight the former dominant roo seems to be hiding out underneath and inside the coop. It's strange because the formally #2 roo had never to my knowledge contested for dominance. They were even hatch mates. I'd just assume they get along, but guess it looks like that is out of the question.
