The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Interesting - I wonder if she'll lay white eggs or if they will have some brown coating to them.

She is laying a jumbo size pale brown egg every other day. She's at least 3 years old and perhaps as old as four or five. Her eggs have the most minute freckles, you have to really look hard to see them. I'm thinking of breeding her to an EE rooster later this spring.

The 5 eggs on the left side are my Wellsummer's first 5 eggs! The top left was her first and you can notice it was about the same shade as the Barred Rock's eggs that on the right side of the carton. Yesterday's #5 is the one up top. They are darkening up nice! I would guess since the last 2 seem similar in shade, that is about as dark as they'll go. So pretty! If we wouldn't have gotten that darn mean rooster by mistake, I'd have 2 of these hens! :)

Hi Everyone,

It's been quite awhile since I've been on the thread. Holiday period was rush rush and then my computer has been down the last several days. Took a while to get my computer tech over here but thankfully he found it was only my monitor that died and not my computer. He did say I've got some transistors or something on my motherboard that are bulding and it could go anytime though. Needless to say I've got oodles of pages to go through on my four threads so I'll keep this short.

Just wanted to say I hope everyone had a terrific Christmas and here's wishing all a fantastic 2013! Hope everyone has a very productive breeding season. I've been planning to get my Wellies in a breeding pen for 3-4 weeks. I'm hoping tomorrow is the day and I don't have to plan for it anymore!

God Bless,

Happy New Year Tailfeathers!

So excited to find this thread.

Quick question: if you have Welsummers from either Meyer Hatchery or Estes Hatchery, can you please PM me?

Thanks so much!

Michael

Reading an older post, it is interesting to note that the first egg layed by a hen may not be so dark yet. I have my very first ever Welsummers, 2 hens and 2 roosters (will sell one rooster). the hens are not due to start laying until April which is our fall (Australia) so they may start to molt and not lay until spring. In any case, I won't panic if the first egg or two are a bit lighter.
