The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Ok yes I should have eggs available. My hens are laying well. I am booked up now until the 1st of May. Just give me a shout when you're ready.

Will do, pretty sure mid May! Thank you. This time, more babies, and, I am keeping myself a few to watch...with eyeliner. :D

Anyone have any (female) chicks available in Southern California? I only want 2 for a small suburban backyard layer flock and most places want you to order 12-25!

If anyone wants to go in on an order, please PM me. I'll be picking up 2 cream legbar chicks in San Diego this weekend, and I'd like to get them some friends.

Thanks a lot, and please keep posting those pictures!

I have a Welsummer hen that I raised from a chick and she was my first chicken (I am 12 living in downtown Philadelphia.) She got me inspired with chickens and now they are my life. I don't mean this as an inspirational story but my family was slpitting and it was really hard and she was always right there cooing softly in my arms. She's amazing. I feel like Welsummers are equal in greatness to a lot of popular breeds, it's just nobody knows about them. :) I love my Welsummer :)

They are just precious!

If I remember b..your name is Brian? he he..hope I'm right. Thanks for the pictures. Now, I'm telling you, that this chick had some black behind the eyes, so maybe not so much, because it sure is gone now. How long does the line last? I am just worried about the thickness of the comb now, so I am hot holding out for a girl at this point. Your little baby girls in the photos show something else I look for when I sex any chick..works more often than not, and I know you know what I'm going to say..they feather out faster, then you look for that pointy feather. That's how I do it along with other factors with different breeds that you can look for..like eyeliner. :)

Hey Happy Chooks, go out there and pat those girls on their backs just in front of their tails..you probably already have..I do that to wake them up per say. They shake me off, and I get them again during the day a couple of times. Might be harder to do if you have a whole lot more chickens than I do, which I'm guessing you do! I just have my back yard flock. Man, I wish I could have a nice looking Welsummer rooster out there and some hens for him. I know which breeds I would love to work with, and Welsummers are definitely one of them. Also the OE's. Would be great!

Sweetheart, that is a great story. Our pets can bring us so much joy, whether it be during hard times or even during the good. I can out side to feed my chickens, having things on my mind, and one of them will do something silly, and bring that first smile of the day to my face. I love chickens because my grandmother had them. My family was also having problems when I was a child. I loved it when we traveled from Florida to VA. to see my grandmother. Those chickens made my days. I spent most of my time out side when I was there. She also had ducks. The neighbors guineas would come over, loved watching them also. She had cats. I grew up loving dogs. (Lassie don't ya know) And horses. Never owned a horse, but have many great memories of riding them when I was younger. Pets, one of the best things in life.
