The Welsummer Thread!!!!

A few examples of eggs this week. They are still running about "medium" size, but pleased with the color so far.

I'm so happy with my Welsummer hen. She's only about 14 weeks and hasn't started laying, but she is the nicest one out of my entire flock. She will sit still when I pick her up and when I set her down an a fifty gallon drum she just waits.for me to pick her up again. None of my neighbors Welsummers are like her so I guess I just got super lucky! In a lot of ways she acts exactly like I imagine my Silkies to act when they mature. I just thought I'd share how she was doing. I don't know how much better she could be and when she starts laying it'll be perfect.

Lilly and her sister (they clearly aren't blood related but Bella was her mothers chick from last year and she took Lilly and her sister that she grew up with in this year after the mother give them both the boot. So Bella has raised Lilly and her sister from 6 weeks and they have stayed close but have rejected the other one :()

As long as they really are Wellies (and not the hatchery mixed variety) then yes, both are girls. Boys don't have that coloring at 8 weeks, they are distinctly different. If they aren't from a Wellie breeder then all bets are off....

Thanks and yes they are from a breeder :) She has given/ sold me some great chickens thus far. I have gotten 6 from her at different times.
