The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Does anyone else have a Welsummer that has taken an extremely long time before laying it's first egg? Mine is almost 9 months old.

I've waited 11 months before. That pullet laid for a couple of months, then went broody. (certainly not normal for the breed)

I haven't had Welsummers that long...less than two years...but this summer I had five of mine go broody. I didn't think to look up the frequency of broodiness in the breed.

If you had looked it up, you would have found that they rarely go broody. You've got a strange batch!

Hmmmm....Mine came from Whitmore Farms. I wonder what their broody rate is now. I'm so used to my Orps going broody that I didn't even think about whether it was normal for the Wellies or not. I should have gotten the tag numbers on those. If they do it again next summer, I'll make sure I know who it is.

Thanks, Happy Chooks. Good to know I'm not the only one waiting on their Welsummer.

Ok take two! Hopefully these are in order as I've uploaded them straight from my phone
