The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Wow, what a wonderful thread! You peeps are very kind ! I'm sorry to hear other stories it's sad! Never in my life would I have thought I would miss a hen! I know it's a dogs instinct. It's just the dogs who have not been treated right and or are breed for fighting. I feel bad for the dogs as well. When a owner can't be responsible. Then we all loose our little friends. As we all know Intel you have chickens you don't understand the love you put into your flock
Hi Angie16Hearts I have 1 Welsummer hen, I am certain her eggs are fertile, however they would be a mix of something else, either Egyptian, Barred Plymouth Rock or my Big Comb rainbow colored guy (not sure what breed he is). But I too live in central CA and could give you some fertile eggs, I have other breeds of chickens as well, of course all eggs would be somewhat mixed, maybe with the exception of my Barred Plymouth Rock hens eggs.

Yes, I would love to get a few of her eggs! Let's PM thank you !

Just got two Welsummer hens. These are older hens, not real sure of the age, but they look good and I think they will still lay. Of course moving to a new coop will throw them off for a while as they get used to new surroundings.

What a lovely breed to look at! I like how the hackles have a golden glow. I have not had chickens for years and not I'm getting back in to it. These two hens are delightful so far.

My welsummer started laying on thanksgiving and she hurt her leg 4 days later and stopped laying totally. But now her leg is now worse and thinking we may have to lay her down...really sad... But she is not doing good.

Does anyone have any fertile eggs? I live in central California. My very first hem was a wellsummer. She was my top hen ! We trusted each other through 5 clutches. I absolutely know I will never replace her! My neighbors pit bull jumped a 12 foot fence and took out 4 of my ladies

she went first trying to play the rooster roll. I had just walked in house with my bird dog to grab her a bone. She stays out and watches them everyday . All it took was tops 8 min for this dog to kill my hens and all for sport ! My second in the pecking order sure put up A fight! She saved many others I believe. Unfortunately I had to put her down. All while looking around yard yelling for my husband no to get the dog! Then our wonderful neighbors yelled some teSl nice things over the fence if you get my drift ?'! Come to find out the same dog killed two bunnies that same morning. So there is my story
