I know. I tried to hold off as long as i could...but the hens are picking up laying and the boys are super active, so I figured I better get with it and start checking fertility. I have several people wanting eggs and I am hoping to start shipping eggs by mid March.
You got your incubator running Robin?

Unfortunately no. My egg turner broke. Hubby threw on some boards on it, didn't know there was in the boxes, smashed them.

I am hoping he can fix it if it can otherwise, all it is good for is the motor. Otherwise I will have to turn by hand.

Hubby also said NO chicks in the basement so building an outdoor brooder would be the sensible thing to do. After all, he did let me use his space but the dust and the mess they created was a bit much which I understand perfectly. Looking on Freecycle for sheds.

2 weeks after integration, and my welsummer babies are finally out enjoying the sunshine instead of hiding in the coop all day!

The adults are used to them enough to allow them outside.

For the most part, there is now peace among them. (until the BR roo disappears shortly) They still hang out in clumps, the adults clump together in one area, the babies in another, but hey it's progress!

Geesh pink, you like to hatch boys. Tell yourself you need lots more boys, and maybe you'll hatch some more girls!

Iggimom.....I'm in CA and we have had gorgeous weather for the past 2 days. In the high 60's and sunshine.
