Those little Bantam Wellies eggs are AWESOME Games! Someday when I grow up I'm going to have some Banty Wellies! The hard part is going to be convincing my husband that I do need both LF and Bantam!

(WELSUMMER BANTAMS) With the Dutch Line that I have, about half of the hens lay a DARKER SPECKLED egg, and the other hens lay a bigger pale-er egg. Ill have to get some pictures up! Hatched out 9 on Wednesday. 18 due this week. Now selling eggs and chicks out of my Dutch Amestein line.

I hatched some Wellies last year (bought eggs from another BYCer.) Of that batch, I now have only one rooster and one hen. I have one ther Wellie hen that I bought as a chick at a swap last summer. It must be my bad luck, but I have been surprised by their flighty and fearful temperments, and disappointed by their egg-laying. I get about 3 eggs a week from the two girls. The one I got at the swap lays eggs that are not as dark as my sex-links. What am I doing wrong? I still love the breed, and am thinking of trying again this year, possibly with chicks from Whitmore farms. Anyone have any thoughts on them?

3 eggs a week???? That is pitiful! Mine lays almost every day non stop until time for extreme hot weather or molting/winter months. They are not flighty or nervous breed, should not be!

Whitmore Farms is a very good choice. Heard nothing but good reviews on them. Better call him because he will be booked fast!

Look at Tailfeathers post on Page 70 of this thread. Apparently there are still eggs available there. I am thinking of this, but my incubator is pretty full at present, or will be by next week.

I ought to have my head examined.

I got my first egg from 1 of my pullets, Feisty yesterday. She is 24 weeks exactly. It was under the feeder, so I guess she couldn't take the time away from eating to lay it in the nest boxes.

Here it is with a flash next to a BR egg:

And here without flash, but my overhead cabinet lights on:
