The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Feathers on legs is huge NO NO and should NOT be used for breedings. Sorry folks but it is problem with some lines and breeders really work hard eliminate those feather legs in the first place. Sometimes if the rooster has feather legs and the sister hens (all from the same breeder or hatching eggs), then the hens would have to be culled out as well because they do have the tendency to pass those genes down.

I can't see the feathers on the roo. Are you just sharper eyed than I am? It isn't the feathers up above his 'elbows' is it?

Ok, I know there is a proper name for elbows but I forget.

See the black spots or smudges on the legs of the rooster on the first picture, those are just small featherings........a disqualification to the Welsummer standard, that's for sure.

okay thanks, we just candled our eggs and at day 14 we have 3 Welsummers and 2 BW/W Ameracuana that show good development and 2 BW/W Ameracuanas that are questionable. We'll see what next friday brings.
