The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Well if they can go broody on me, at least they will have a place with me! I hope Sarah can teach them a few things or two about brooding chicks!

I am sold on the egg colors of the Dutchies, just sold on them! I won't part with the Germans but both origins do produce eggs better than Sarah would ever be. Sarah spends alot of time mothering so her egg production are forgiven as a proven broody mom. If those Dutchies can brood and mother the chicks, BRING THEM ON! But not at these temps tho!

Next door neighbor was glad the roo is gone, he said whenever he is outside, he thinks the roo is crowing to HIM LOL!

Everytime I go out there, he would chatter grunt, like those low talks to the girls. He would do that to me. Such a gentle giant!

This morning, the trio are all doing just fine at her farm. They enjoyed their treats and so forth.

Found one of Nate's girls with a bloodied comb. Time for that Blue Kote until the girls get their pecking order established.

Seriously....I like him, I think you made a good choice. He will beef up, he may not ever reach the size of Moose, but he will beef up. The brown edging on his tail feathers may change or perhaps take a good look at him after his first molt if you can keep in touch with his new owner.

Pay shipping and he's yours! Haven't found a taker yet, and I don't really want to send him to the feed store.

Thanks for your opinion on him!

I'm trying to learn all I can.

Also Pink, I'm awaiting the new SOP book to come out, so I don't have one yet. But on the wcna site it doesn't state any SOP guidelines for the male's tail color. (it states tail coloring in the female, but not the male) Is the brown edging on the tail feathers a DQ?

The copy of the standards that I have are old 1998....but I thought it was acceptable "lower coverts, black, edged with brown."
Looking at the copy I have...this is what I read.

COLOR- MALE

BACK: Bright reddish brown. Saddle, rich golden brown as uniform as possible, free from black striping, some striping allowed in under-feathers. Sickles, lusterous, greenish black. Upper coverts, black. Lower coverts, black, edged with brown.
