The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Pinkchick, where do you live in Washington? I spend a lot of time there, and if you sell Welsummer chicks, I'd sure like to get some. If that isn't possible, I'd be interested in buying some eggs (probably shipped to CA). Will you have some available?

Many thanks,
Kate
PS -- My tenant at the other house here on the ranch is as crazy about pink as you are -- I keep wondering if you are related! I had to replace the wall oven for her recently, and she was quite disappointed that it wasn't PINK.

Hi Kate!

I completely understand her dismay!

DH ix-nayed the idea of using the retro pink fridigdaire stove and fridge that I had when we remodeled our kitchen.....I loved them and had had them for years waiting to use them (they were sitting on the sidewalk marked FREE in Portland.....I don't even think that I looked in my mirror to see if anyone was behind me when I saw them and brought my truck to a screeching halt to load them. Got them home and plugged them in and believe it or not they both still worked great. The fridge I still have and won't give up because I use it in the shopand it's just too cool and funky, but DH said to continue to store the stove was silly as we didn't have a need for 2 stoves, so we sold the stove. I settled for a new black glass top stove (with the optional and rarely used self cleaning function

) < (older joke here in the Wellie thread) and a new black side by side fridge and PINK Kitchen Aid counter appliances, mixer, blender, coffee grinder and toaster.

All is well in Pinkville!

I live about an hour north of Portland, Kelso/Longview area, so depending on where you spend alot of your time in WA....you probably cruise right down the I-5 past me to get to where you are going.

When is the next time you are coming this way? If you wanted chicks I could probably work it out to hatch some out for you and grow them a bit so you can transport them back, but I can also send out hatching eggs if you like. Just need to know when you are coming through, I have other orders to fill and would need to see if I could squeeze you in if it is going to be pretty soon. I have culled down to 4 pullets so eggs will take about a week to collect.

Kim,

I can't wait. I've had my bator fired up for 3 days just makin sure everything is just right. I tried callin earlier but no answer. I will get in touch with you tomorrow sometime.
Thanks, Les

Did you call the home phone or my cell? If you called the cell I didn't hear it ring, I was at work (installing a torch down roof....lot's o' fun...in 28 degree weather yesterday morning....but atleast I was the one with the torch and stayed pretty toasty until the sun came out and melted the perma frost....

The man at the post office was very nice and ran both boxes of eggs that I shipped straight out to trucks that were being loaded for departure by 11AM. One truck was headed to Seattle and the other to Portland, so hopefully the make it by tomorrow with no glitches. I have a feeling that the eggs that went to the Seattle area may just show up to their destination today.

I will be home all day.....WARNING......I usually leave the phone in the house as I have become very adept at "butt dialing" when the phone is in my back pocket......not cool to open the phone bill and wonder who in the heck is calling South Africa for 26 minutes. I've managed to "butt dial" South Africa, New York, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. So....needless to say, if I don't answer, I'm outside at the chicken coops but do leave a message and I will try to call you back.

Pinkchick:
Thanks so much! I do go right by Kelso, both ways. I stay with a friend on Vashon Island frequently. I don't know when I'll be doing so next, though. Last night I set guinea eggs in my incubator, but I have room for 5-6 wellie eggs that I could add in a week, if that's possible. Would you ship that few? I'd rather fill the bator with them, but at least that would give me a bit of a head start with a few. Can you give me an idea of cost and shipping?

Any nice roos you might want to sell?

I absolutely LOVE your story of the pink appliances!!!!

Where in CA are you?

I'm near Mt. Shasta.

Oh. My Welsummers have that! I didn't know what it was!

Can anyone here take a look at this pic of my new Wellie? She's got these little black spots on her comb and I'm trying to figure out what it is. I'm guessing favus? But, she's new to me. Do Wellies have black spots naturally?
