The Welsummer Thread!!!!

My two week old Welsummer chick is getting white feathers on her chest. Is that normal? None of the adult welsummers I have seen have white on their chests. It's from a hatchery, is it possible it's not really a Welsummer?

That's great! It's always fun when you can see the eggs developing! Best of luck with this hatch!

Its too weird to be a Welsummer. Looks more like New Hampshire Red to me. Never saw a Welsummer like that except for the odd Welsummer pullet that was on the WCNA website. That looks like her tho.

The sex of that chick, definately cockeral.

Well it came from Welsummer parents as we don't have any New Hampshire Red chickens here or close to us so no one jumped the fence

might be, the only way I can see to test for it is separate out the older 2 girls and put a roo in with each and than mark eggs with each girls number, put in to incubator and see what hatches-oh and have DH ask me what I'm doing

No, it is NOT normal for them to have white feathers anywhere on their bodies. Are you sure its a Welsummer or did you order an assortment?

I got it out of a bin at the feed store.

Here it is:

Here you can see it has some white feathers in it's wings and the white feathers coming in on it's chest.
