Approaching my first 'lockdown' on my 36 wellie eggs. 9 made it to lock down. We are actually expecting the hatch to go off on Monday night. Then next week by Thursday night for my lockdown as I have 4-6 of the Wellie eggs here and am totally confounded whether anything is alive in those dark eggs or not!

What I want to know, and you can point me to all the byc links you want on how:

When and how do I go about culling my Wellies? I won't be breeding anything with CrOOKED TOES, but after that when will their feathers be grown in enough to start figuring out if they will be a nice Wellie or should leave the farm??

What are the most common faults?

Where do I find this kind of information? Just reading the breed standards are confusing to me. I need some explaining:/

From what I've seen, you really can't cull pullets until they just about start laying. And roosters, you can kinda tell early on, but they change so much up until a year old.

Common faults: white legs, feather stubs on their shanks are huge faults that you could see early on.

[Eggs Are Good]

Has anyone had success hatching Guineas? Yesterday, I hatched 16/18 Welsummer eggs, but only 3/18 Guinea eggs. I know that Guinea eggs take 28 days to incubate, so I put them in 1 week before the Welsummer eggs. I always have a good hatch rate with my chickens, but I have yet to have a good Guinea hatch. (My Guinea male to female ratio is 1/1, so that's not an issue). Thanks.

I hatched Guineas last year at the same time as chicken eggs just like you. Shipped eggs - I had 12 out of 14 hatch. Treated them exactly like the chicken eggs except for the longer time period.

i have a ? i heard u can tell a welsummer sex by its color, well i have one here i cant tell what it is for sure,if anyone can help me out on sex this one i would be happy. Boy or girl? and this last one is of him and anouther i cant tell 100% the one on the left is the one ive been showing

The black on the chest... roo? I read that somewhere. I am not Wellie expert. How old is the bird in question? 6 weeks-ish?
