The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Tomorrow makes day 21 for the Welsummer eggs yet I just checked a few minutes ago and 4 have pipped and 3 more were doing some serious rocking. Looks like Bonnie is getting chicks on Saturday.

did you happen to candle the seeper before it started seeping. I like to follow up on stuff like that - was the shell thin or do you think there was a hairline crack I had missed
What are you using to candle?? I have a heck of a time seeing through those eggs. Not bad for eggs from the egg chain lol

I did candle it. But I did not write down if it was a crack or what. For some reason I am thinking it also had blood ring. The one that had the crack (that I told you about in a PM when I got them, the one that looked like a pip) is wax covered and I think it is one of the growing ones.

What I have been candling them with is this Rayovac flashlight. I keep stealing it from my husband to use. With it I was able to candle blue eggs and it looked like they were white eggs.

I am soooooo not complaining! I was so thrilled when I saw them on the swap thread I was shaking when I was typing "mine."

I still am that thrilled, and I do plan on contacting you for more in the future!!!

Thank you very much!!

Got 13 Silkies to bring to chickenstock and 4 are black, rest white, so hope someone will be looking for them as well!

I am STILL trying to remember about the coleslaw to bring. But getting ready!!

Sounds like up to 7 chickies, hoping lots more hatch????

Thanks!
Bonnie

That is AWESOME!!

You did really well with your incubator. This is GREAT.

Don't trip in the dark.

I have someone interested in letting me rent their barn/pasture and dropping a mobile home on it. Hubby is cautious, I am ecstatic. It comes WITH A CHICKEN COOP AND RUN as well.

I will have some good wellies for sure with Opa's Stock!!

I need to take photos of the iffy lines from hatching eggs this spring and see what y'all think. One is the blonde chick (all brown, no partridge coloring), some are getting salmon chests, some lots of red feathering, some all black under feathers. and some the neck feathers are interesting. I think the roos have too many finger point, not.

Little Cassidy is not doing that great. That splay legg never got fixed and only got worse with the slipped tendon turning into a bent upper leg bone as well. Kept her to see how her coloring came in as one other chick hatched from that batch and I want to figure out which one it is.

Managed to get the legbands off of the last hatch and rebanded 2 of them.

Have more ROOS than hens, but culling hasn't started yet. I will farm them out here, or mark the keepers with bands and let everyone else run around unbanded.

I can't wait until CHICKENSTOCK. I am thrilled to be getting Opa's Wellie chicks.

THANKS AGAIN!
Bonnie

I have Welsummer hybrids... They are only 8wks now but in this pic they are closer to 5 or 6wks...... Some of them are the standard coloring but some are buff and white....I initially purchased these birds as meet birds but as a watch them grow and realize the eggs they produce I may only have 5 out of the 12 go into the freezer.

I separate them in brooders 6 and 6 this just one brooder box.
