The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Bonnie, I will be keeping 4 pullets from McSpin birds and 2 pullets & 1 cockerel from mine so I sure there will be one available for you or a bunch of birds if you want. McSpin's birds are also Calico Woods and I'm hoping that breeding back into the same line, yet not as closely related, will strengthen the good traits these birds have.

Good luck to both of you with your hatches!

I don't think I'll be using the foam packing again! I'm going to stick with the bubble wrap method from now on.

It is not your fault. You did pack very well. After all those eggs were all fertile but its the USPS's fault or mine incubating problems. That I will never be sure but I do know most of it was the USPS. There were alot of "floaters" hanging around but I decided to give them a chance.

I can not ask Sarah to be broody any much longer, its been almost two months and she is getting very skinny. I do see her get off the nest to get a quick bite to eat and drink and poop and she goes right back in the nest and sit longer. Her patience is a virtue I am sure LOL!

You are right about McSpin's eggs, they are great. They are the same as mine and from the same line Calico Woods. I'm optimistic that breeding my rooster to pullets from these eggs will strengthen the good qualities that birds from this line possess. I intend to only keep pullets that fit my expectations of color and when they start laying I will only hatch eggs that meet my color standards. I think this should be a good plan to continue getting quality birds.
