The Welsummer Thread!!!!

They are both still young, but I'm liking B right now. They change so much in the first 6 months.

This is all very helpful info. I'll go with you pros and lean toward B right now, although I do like the BIG size of Cockerel A. But that silly half point sure detracts from the visual.........

6 on "A" including the little stupid extra half point

4 on "B"

They were 6 weeks old...give or take a couple days when you picked them up.

Those girls are looking good. Can't believe those couple of girls that are still working on their tails, can't wait until they grow in.

Hey...BTW, Thanks for the picture the other day via PM...ADORABLE!!!!!!!

Yeah.... no one has tails yet, and it's kind of embarrassing! They look silly.

More pics would help.

Pink had nice birds.

I need more welsummers, but waiting until next year. I have laced brahamas now. Plus adding some imported birds next year, its a secret until I get them...

When I get more welsummers I needs some MOOSE offspring... (big grins)

Coming to you soon Kim! One of your girls is laying, just a waitin' for the other one to start and for them to get a little size on the eggs before I send them to you to hatch. (Gotta crack those first ones open and make sure Moose is doing his job!)

I'll let ya know as soon as I have them both laying and we'll coordinate a time that works to ship some to you.

A is bigger? In the photo's B looks bigger.

I just like the looks of B, but like I said, they change so much. Keep both and see how they mature.

Thank you, EweSheep. Yes, I'm planning on keeping both until we know more, but I'm definitely wanting to learn what I can now. Here are some pullet pix, if anyone can chime in on those, too:

Nice pullets... May be just the pictures but they seem to have more red in the wings than I prefer... They should have very little red in the wings... Depends which standard you breed to, personally I go for the dutch standard...

I'll have to find out how the chickens I exported to holland are doing, haven't had an update in a while...

Yes -- Cockerel A is MUCH bigger in real life.

hi i have to coop my chickens lately, used to free range but some predator has been dining so everyone in good sized coops for a time.
my welsummer hens have a habit that none of my other hens do, when i walk into the coop they often freeze and squat somewhat as if i were a rooster. it is hard to walk in with a feed bucket and water and step over 4 - 5 hens around your feet. anyone else have this happen. just something i havent run into before. currently there is no roo with them.. growing up welsummer roo and have a few extra if anyone close to w ky needs [email protected]

My Wells hens used to do that squat also~they want you to pet them or pick them up~the only one I have now is too nervous & doesn't do it~a HUGE RED FOX got all of her coop mates, a few months ago~I have started with a new group of 6 including a Roo~hoping they will turn out to be as loving~I do LOVE Welsummers

Ok folks, who has been "contracted" out to MPC for these wonderful bantams.....just sick to see the bantams go downhill for a hatchery or some $$$$$!

I am just shocked. There are going to be ALOT of buyers thinking they will get dark eggs out of these bantams are going to be very sorely disappointed. Its a work in progress I must say.

Oh well, not much I can do or say but good luck to those who wants them from a hatchery.
