Hi Opa, just finished a 2200 mile trip w/ 45 birds, including my Wellies from IN to OR. Every bird arrived in great shape though we stopped often to check food and water. Also, had plenty of bedding, to insulate and soften the bumps along the way and there were plenty. Utilized a modified small horse trailer with the cages stacked below sightline:hide w/ screening/framing so there was plenty of fresh air. Like you, would not want to ship a mature bird commercially as the private mode of transport was hard enough. Have a safe trip.

Just got my bantam welsummer chicks today! From MyPetChicken. I'm hoping they are both girls

that is what I ordered. Both seem to have the eyeliner and nice dark v on their heads.

Haven't had bantams ever, I'm excited. they are SO tiny I can't believe it.
 
Of all the different chicks, I still think wellies are some of the absolute cutist! Itty bitty bantam wellie chicks....SQUEEEE!!!
