The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I am waiting for my first Wellie eggs too.

I have 4 Wellie ladies who hatched in June. Any day now ....

OK, folks - I have been quite "absent" for a few months, going thru all kinds of chicken maladies, but now I have Wellie pullets that have recently started laying and I'm thrilled with the eggs - so thrilled I need to share them with fellow Wellie lovers. My girls hatched 4/29, and I got them at 6 weeks of age. I had 6, gave one to my mother-in-law, and now most of my 5 are laying. Let's see if I remember how to post a photo.... I've missed participating in these discussions, but I have been keeping up with you all, reading all the posts and drooling over the eggs.

You can still join the club even you don't have any Welsummers. There ARE folks in there that don't have Wellies and they certainly are planning to have some. I would wait until spring when you can get some pullets because not everyone has one available. Get on the FB WCNA and post and who knows, someone might have a pullet or two to spare!

ChickieLyn, beautiful colors! I'm not crazy about spots but the color is the real thing of terra cotta colors! Congrats! Well worth the wait!

Congratulations on all the new layers! Beautiful Eggs Everyone!

I'm so jealous ........all 3 of my girls are in molt and I haven't seen any Wellie eggs for as long as I haven't seen any Barnie eggs, almost 2 months. I can't wait until they start up again.

Welcome to those of you joining us!

Congrats on the eggs! Beautiful. Mine have all quit and I'm anxiously awaiting Cleopatra to start up again after her molt. She was the first wellie to start molting, so when she starts up then it will be on the way of everyone starting up!

So nice to be back. Here's today's haul - my girls are coming up with some crazy colored eggs. The one in the center reminds me of the freckles my red-headed cousin had as a kid. The one on the far left has no gloss to it at all - it's so flat and rough. I'm so partial to the speckled, spotted eggs - this is eggs-actly what I was hoping for! None of my Wellie pullets are molting yet, but they are also only 7 1/2 months old, and have only been laying about a month.

Pink Chicks - I almost lost one of Odin's daughters a couple of weeks ago; she lays huge dark eggs and I found her outside standing like a penguin. I hadn't seen an egg from her and thought she might be egg bound, so I brought her inside for a week, kept her in a darkened room, fed her scrambled eggs and vitamin water and she's back outside with all the girls again. The dark glossy egg on the right is from her sister, also from Odin.
