Geez . . .aren't they the most evil little devils ever created. Which brings me to my forever question . . .WHY were they created? Really, what good do they do? They are bad tempered, you don't even have to do a thing to them to make them attack, and they are actually deadly to a lot of us . . .I am not scared of a lot of bugs, but a wasp will make me turn tail and run every time. I have a tiny cyst on my back where one drilled me years ago that rode in on a shirt I had hung on the line, and also got one in my pants one time and my DH was stepping out of the shower when I was in a smokin' hurry to get my pants off and he still laughs about it . . .drilled me twice and actually made them bleed. . .EVIL nasty critters. Glad you are better, or going to be!!!! The doctor in the ER sounded like a real winner too, by the way.

And mosquitos! And another thing while we are griping. So much for COLD winters, because Illinois had a doozy and there are bugs out the wazoo around our house and my windshield was dotted like crazy when I got home last night, so just because it was cold below 0 three days running DOES NOT mean we will not have bugs. . .I have to flush the Alpacas tanks weekly because of those dang mosquito larvae. Any remedies for them? I put cider vinegar in, but that isn't working. . .but the Vanilla air freshners are working GREAT for flies out in the barn. NONE in the barn. I am actually considering getting $1 store Vanilla and putting in on a soft rag and rubbing it around on the Alpacas themselves and the dogs . . .cheap, smells good and totally safe!!! Going to hang the air freshners on our front porch too!! Cheap and safe fix!!!

Not long after making comment on your post, I too ended up in the ER!! Fire Ant bit me on the shoulder while I was out watering my garden. Just one, that's all it took, my allergy to them are that bad! Took my shot, called 911, next thing I know there is a paramedic trying to get me to sit up. I had keeled over on the front steps. Spent the last day and a half sleeping everything off that they gave me. Feel like crud, but I can breethe again!!

Awwww thanks but i'm peachy. My OEG decided she wants to lay her eggs in the house and be a house chicken. Every time the door opens she runs in and does not want to go out.

Happened 5 times today. We let the dogs in and she calmly walks in with them like she belongs inside. Tinkle is out to drive me crazy.

And what is the purpose of those, fleas, mosquitoes and ticks? And fire ants. They have no purpose but to hide mounds that I step in then end up doing dances Michael Jackson never dreamed of.

DE actually works. When we lived there the only thing that worked was Andro and it was very expensive. Of course I never heard of DE until about 6 years ago.

OT - Yes, I also like knowing that if my chickens get into the fire ant mound after I have treated it with the DE it won't harm them. DE is the only thing I use for pest control outside the house since I have free ranging chickens that think the yard belongs to them.
