It's very common to see straight combs in hatchery Wyandottes.. I don't know of breeders doing it but I think contract farms do. Anyways, it's been shown that to keep only rose comb birds is to essentially breed out your fertility eventually (especially if not bringing in new blood) as several generation down the road something connected with rose comb gene has been shown to slow sperm motility. I actually like straight combs best but rose combs are growing on me (minus the fertility thin since I intend to breed). :)

The hatchery GLW in my friends flock are getting to be old ladies and still going strong, as beautiful as ever too.. just like all the birds I've seen on this thread so far, nice job guys! :love

I had some Wyandottes in past but they were competing with so many other breeds I was fascinated with at the time and they didn't stand out too much, with exception to the fat running down my hands when processing the oops boys for the freezer. They were superb even next to FBCM. :drool

Ten + years dozens of breeds (many over rated) and hundreds of birds later (yes individuality varies widely) with a LITTLE bit of chicken education/experience in hand now.. I can't wait to get the lavender Wyandottes I ordered and start working with them, I have great expectations! :wee
