The Wyandotte Thread

Hi,
My daughter gave me a red laced Wyandotte 8 months old and a blue laced red 7 months old. No eggs from either but the older one has started sort of honking ?? Sounds like she's trying to clear her throat. Tried to record it buts she's real shy.
My question is what should she sound like? I've never herd a Wyandotte hens sound

Mine kind of make that honk sound occasionally, but only if something goes down the wrong way

Are you sure this is a pullet? I have a cockerel I named Honky because when he first tried to crow, he sounded like the neighbor's goose.

sounds like she's clearing her throat, breeder said she was ready to lay.....I checked her vent yesterday to see if she was egg bound , I didn't notice any extra parts!!
I'm guessing Wyandottes are late bloomers?

Maybe she's practicing her egg song? My Wyandottes did not lay till 8 months. Good luck, hope you figure it out!

My little black boy/girl finally has some of her neck and back feathers coming in! And they are........ Black. Completely black.

Hens, even within the same breed, can all have a different voice. We had a Silkie cockerel that sounded like a Trumpeter Swan so we named him "Trumpet." We had two different Breda pullets and one had a very dainty sound to her voice and the other Breda had a very very deep voice that she could've passed for a roo. When our girls come to the sliding door we know who it is without looking just by hearing their specific voice.

Thanks for all the responses, I sat on the perch ( really I did) today and observed her, she does seem to be trying different sounds out ... she is so much bigger then my Icelandics and has a funny puberty voice!! Never a dull moment
