Several feed stores in the SW order from Privett Hatchery. At ours local feed store you can place an order specially for you but the orders are placed only when they put in their seasonal orders. I am on their web site and they have made changes but it still does not work correctly. I have been thinking of sending a SASE so that I can see exactly what they sell. I ordered six BLRW pullets from Stombergers along with other breeds and I like my five splash girls who remain after I culled one which had a single comb. They are 17 weeks old and as soon as they start laying, I will like them even more !

Are there any Wyandotte breeders up North that will have eggs or chicks?

I'm thinking about getting some Wyandottes as my first chickens, as I've heard great things about them. Are there any good breeders in Virginia? I'm mostly interested in the Columbian and Silver Penciled varieties.

Thanks for any help!

EDIT: Or, as a second option, are there any well-trusted hatcheries that turn out good-quality birds of these types?

. I'm looking for those same varieties in show or breeder quality and haven't had much luck. Been told to join the APA and the wyandotte breeders of america club to get breeders list, and I'm on it. Other than that, try Paul's Poultry. I love those varieties too!!!

Welcome, Mrs Foote, to the Wyandotte thread.
I'm also on the Brahma thread and responded to you on that one too.

Our SLW is one of the best of the bunch (you can see her on post #1309 & her egg!).
She is second only to our Dark Brahma.
Our GLW is smaller, slightly more aloof, and is bottom of the pecking order. But boy, is she pretty (see my avatar).

Generally speaking, I think you'd be happy with either breed. I love their personalities as well as their differences.

I've been looking at Paul's, and they do seem to have really nice birds. I'm just really skittish about shipping them across the country.... I know people do it all the time, it still makes me nervous!
