The Wyandotte Thread

I can usually start to tell also by 4/5 weeks old. Like Sue said, the combs and wattles start enlarging and getting redder and the feathering differences will become apparent. My SLWs are easier to tell on than my BLRWs. I think these pictures are probably 6 weeks old so a little older than yours.

Updated photos of some of my BLRW. The hens are around 5 months old - can't wait for them to start laying eggs! Should I put both the blue and splash roosters in the breeding pen? I only have splash hens so I thought maybe I should just put the blue one in (so I'd get 50% blue, 50% splash). What do you think of the birds? They sure look pretty to me! They're from BYC member eggs.

If you put your splash roo in, splash x splash will produce only splash, but your blue roo will produce half & half.

What you needto think about is which rooster compliments your hens. What do they need for improvement, and which rooster is good in that area. That is more important that the color.

The one I know FOR sure that is a cockerel is the one on the very bottom left. He has a long tail. All these ones have a much longer tail (except two) than my first group that I know were all pullets.

In Question;
