I was over the MOON today!  I candled and EVERY SINGLE EGG I SET IS FERTILE!  9 more SLW egg developing

Congrats!! and yes, I'm jealous.

I'm running two pens and will be checking them again here shortly.

YEP!!!  I bought some SLW chicks at rural king 2yrs ago, just for my egg eating laying pen...and as they started maturing their feathers were coming in brown too!  I will never put these into a breeding pen ever....I would not want to pass those genes on... I don't think they are actually pure-bred...but they are overly-friendly

Yeah, mine is incredibly friendly too she (still hoping) snuggles up to me and even rides around on my shoulder

Next time ask what shows they won.... county fairs or state fairs..... steer clear.  I saw an ad locally on CL for SQ RIR.  The roo was clearly hatchery and she didn't have any RIR hens so what was she selling as SQ chicks....... mutts.

Didn't know to ask about shows. I guess I thought it was just a set standard and didn't even think it was something ppl might not be honest about. It was organised over the internet, I had to drive an hour to meet the guy at his work to pick 'her' up. Should've said no right there when she was obviously way too small for the age he said and he only charged ten dollars for a. Show quality pol? But I didn't want to be rude..

I need customers like you!   All mine right now seem to have a split personality.  It was you money and you have the right to say NO and not be rude.  If you were misled you should have said so. 

I've finally mustered the courage to write to him about it. Dunno what I'm expecting to get out of it though. Maybe some honest answers about her/him.

Even if you don't get a answer at least you called him out on it. He's the one that has to live with being dishonest to customers. At least she found a goo home .

=-O he apologized and said I can have my pick of his other birds! He said his roosters all have a bit of brown in them so any of his chicks will but he's hatching some atm that are "of proven origin" that I can also have my pick of =-O
At the moment I think I'm just going to wait and hope for a miracle. He said he would take him back if I wanted but I know he eats his 'spare' roosters so I couldn't do that. The offer of another bird is very nice of him though. he doesn't know why he would be so small.
