The Wyandotte Thread

I have never had a roo with one waddle in any breed.

It could be that someone is passing around poor quality stock then. I got rid of him when I saw that one of the cockerels that he was the daddy to had the same thing. It was a trait that I wont be passing on in my lines. So all of his sons were culled and the girls are used just for eating eggs now. I don't want to pass on a bad trait.

I would think the first cross would be with a Jubilee Orp..... not sure what the other birds should be.... just a black maybe????? @ki4got can maybe help us out. I can start that ball rolling...... if I knew what with. SLW? or White or Black are the other options I have.

Looks like with a Jubilee Roo x SLW hen and keep only the pullets. But not sure what after that. I think back to the jubilee roo to get some roos then breed for yellow legs and rose combs.

I was doing some reading and it appears porcelain uses the lavender gene. Red porcelain would likely require mahogany (or other red enhancer), lavender, and mottled genes. Sounds like it could be some work, but worth it.

I have a lot of learning to do on genetics, better start reading now!

I'm game, after I get my flocks of standard LF & bantam BLR and SL going. Looks like I'm going to have a few projects!

No Orloff breeders where you are located?
Or speckled Sussex?
As for the Wyandottes to go with them you can choose partridge, black, buff, ...
Lots of possibilities. I would go for the color with best type and egg laying quality.

I have a golden laced wyandotte roo. I was wondering of anyone could tell me what makes them different qualities and how to tell the difference in the quality?

I would post a pic but my phone won't let me right now.

I think you might be mixing metaphors...... Porcelain in UK is MF in the US..... Like a Jubilee or MFL. Porcelain in the US is Lavender version of the MF pattern.

Porcelain in the UK - NO Lavender
Porcelain in the US - LAVENDER Yes.

Yup , I messed that one up.

Porcelain
Europe see -Mille Fleur
UK, USA, Australia see Isabelle Mille Fleur

Genetics of Chicken Colours pg 204 Sigrid Van Dort

Not sure where you got your information but in my copy of the British Standard Porcelain & Mille Fleur are the same as in the US Standard. The British Porcelain pictured in my British Standard is definately lavender based.
