The Wyandotte Thread

ok, mille fleur is the combination of the pattern gene, columbian and mottling, while tolbunt is the combination of pattern, columbian and melanizing (aka laced) plus mottling.
porcelain is mille fleur plus the lavender gene to replace black with pale grey.
this is a porcelain mille fleur

You're absolutely right, ki4got. Sorry about the mix up, Coupe. Mille fleur is called Porselein in Dutch. Porcelain Mille Fleur is called Isabel Porselein in Dutch, so...

Yes Jen,
I love baby's!
You have two good breeders!. ..For not knowing what you are doing..you are doing pretty darn good. Your GL Roo is pretty nice..Your GL hen  looks like she has a nice tent. Awsome craigslist find. I like your birds..you have a good eye.

Thank you I give my husband most of the credit. I just read the standards and discuss with him the merits of the birds he buys. We bought a who bunch of silver laced and I told him they were hatchery. They were resold!!!
I had hoped to get pictures today of the babies but had to help my husband build the goslings pen! I have two pet Toulouse. I'll try tomorrow for pictures!

Shafting..all though beautiful in this type of bird, it is correct, but not wyndottes.

I wish I could post pictures from the SOP(BLRW are NOT in the SOP yet). I pulled these off the net. These are not wyndottes obviously, but perhaps because they are not you can see a difference. Not all feathers are going to be perfectly colored. Go to http://www.bluelacedred.com/color standard.html to find a ruff draft of the outline. Right now I do not think shafting is a culling offence since that is not a top problem of the BLRW. They need more consistency. I have 50 chicks and no consistency. Most are culls. I know that is the name of the game in the beginning. I know that is the name of the game in the beginning of any project and I give so much credit for all the people who have worked for so many years on this project. It has a good 5 more years worth of work before anything even formalizes. I am going to show them. I was hoping for later this year. I am still hoping. It might have to wait for another NYD hatch and next year. I have all dark birds...but I also have orange, and the wrong leg color from going so dark. Leg color is hard to get right. Once correct and bred correct it should work fine, but that darn orange. It is dark..but it is orange. I have beautiful mahogany too. But I have some beautiful round building blocks. Solid, round, beautiful. I have beautiful clean combs. My beaks are to long. I am jealous of all the short tiny beaks. I have one pullet i am keeping just for her beak. her color is awful..smudgy..but that beak..perfect. I have a male..beautiful color, beautiful round body..tiny..he is sooo tiny. I want to keep him..but I know it will set me back, he also has darker legs. Not that nice yellow. I wish I know someone who was doing a bantam project. OK enough of what is going on with my problems in my breeding.

Karen what is the difference between Isabelle and porcelain? I think Isabelle is more like a birchen pattern and porcelain is more mille fleur pattern BOTH with the lavender gene. Is that close?

BTW thank you for the tolbunt mille fleur info. I wanted that too. Thanks.

The top pic looks like a black laced pullet..tons of shafting at this age..I hope that changes for you.(They do change sometimes) I also see blue in it so the picture quality is off or my computer is off in color. Perhaps more pictures will help. The bottom picture looks like a BLRW chick. I am just giving an opinion..on what I may be seeing on a photo that maybe correct..I wish I was more help..sorry Thanks Delisha, I'll try to take some better pictures

Thanks for the info, I checked the blr site above but the pictures didn't show up only the text? Won't a chicks feathering that young change by the time their 6-8 months old? Good luck with your projects. One more question: since 1 of my roo's is bklace is he bklred? can GL parents produce a Bklace?

I think Black laced and black laced red are the same. I know many people just say blue laced red wyandotte - black variety. Ki4got may know more but I think breeding the GL to the BL you would start getting the gold more and lose some of the mahogany? I'm sure with lots of selective breeding it can be done but that's just my thoughts. All I have learned about BLRW has been from this thread and I know there is always way more to learn lol.

Very handsome boy btw!

Here are a few of the juveniles that have made the first cut:. Most are 10 - 14 weeks old. It was windy yesterday and they either wanted to run or sleep. Will try to get some better pictures this afternoon.

Birchen pullet with yellow toes

Blue Columbian cockerel

Blue Columbian pullet with a maybe Columbian pullet behind her..think I'm seeing a little barring in her tail..will watch that.

Columbian

Blue pullet

CW pullet and in the next picture..better view of her tail.

CW pullets wanting to sleep. They have nice tail tents with nice edging. The one in the very front may be a maybe..can just see a little shafting in the neck feathering

Keeping the Blue laced one for the layer room

These two are younger and have some ticking on their backs that may molt out...nice tail edging.

I like the lacing on the feathers on the neck and tail here..even in the wind.

A maybe Birchen cockerel (legs are yellow under black) and a maybe CW ..seeing some barring on the tail...

WOW you are doing a fantastic job, I can see so much potential in your birds!
Blue Columbian cockerel - I like him a lot, he has a nice wide back already, he is going to be stunning.

Blue Columbian pullet with a maybe Columbian pullet behind her..think I'm seeing a little barring in her tail..will watch that. - The pullet in the front is going to mature really nice.

CW pullet and in the next picture..better view of her tail. - This one is really going to mature nice also!

CW pullets wanting to sleep. They have nice tail tents with nice edging. The one in the very front may be a maybe..can just see a little shafting in the neck feathering - Nice group of pullets!

I like the lacing on the feathers on the neck and tail here..even in the wind. - This pullet is nice and wide all the way back, she should have a nice tail spread, good lacing on the tail feathers.
