Their first egg

My pullets are not really getting much in the way of combs-they are 12 weeks old approximately...when do these develop, or do some breeds not get combs? I have 6 ameraucana cross pullets who really don't have combs too...

Here is a pic of one of the babes-she has a black beak and black, very small comb-

Now im jealous mine are 19wks and have bigger combs and wattles than yours! Send me your secret. its the biggest let down every day to walk in and look around in the coop for an egg when there isnt one.

Wow! That's a double yolk, if not a triple!
Is that your second egg?

My RIR is darker and has a bit more comb and well developed waddles that are quite red. All 3 of my birds combs and wattles developed suddenly at around the age of your birds. She started laying at 19 weeks and I got two double yolks in a row at about eggs 7 and 8. Haven't seen one since.

Congrats!!!

well my leghorns are almost 15 weeks and I was told they would start laying around 16 weeks. They're combs and waddles look like your pullet, but I thought they had to get bigger and redder than that...here I was thinking they were going to be WAY late in their laying. I hope I am as lucky as you and come back from vacation when they are 16 weeks old to find some eggs! What are you feeding them if you dont mind me asking?

dont mind at all.
they are just on layer pellets at the moment but have plenty of vegitation around.
im waiting until they start laying regularly and them introduce some crushed oyster shells.
im new to all this so if you or anyone else has some advice, fire it my way
