There is a cock fight going on in my backyard!!! What should I do?

Sometimes neighbors roosters wander off and get lost.

On edit. I would cage your rooster up so it won't get pecked at until it heals. I would also use triple antibiotic on him.

if he is a close friend then you already have your answer. Tell him to lock his bird up, if he's a friend he will understand and do it. Especially if that roo is going to be eaten anyway, it should be locked in a cage instead of freeranging, which will make his meat tougher. I dont understand why you put Bucky in this situation knowing how that roo was and after all you have been through with your flock. Seems like you are looking for problems. Sorry for this post but it seems like this whole ordeal could have been avoided from the beginning. I just hope Bucky doesnt suffer from his injuries.

I am not saying you are a bad owner. All I am saying is you were well aware that you had a vicious roo next door that visited your property on a regular basis. I say this based on what you said in your original post.

This rooster has beat up our hens before Bucky came along so I have a gruge against the roo next door so I want Bucky to kick his butt though!

You have been on here a long time and know that roosters dont generally get along. If that roo is not friendly with your hens, chances are he would be even worse with a rooster. I feel bad because I followed your other thread regarding all the problems you had with your flock and how hard you worked to finally get bucky home and now poor bucky is beat up bad. I'm just not sure why you would think this vicious neighboring rooster would get along with bucky, which by the way, is one magnificent looking bird. I'm sorry what I am saying sounds harsh. I dont mean to offend. Your good friend next door should have taken care of this rooster problem the very first time he beat up one of your hens. I wish you and bucky the best of luck and hope this ordeal next door gets resolved quickly.​

Thanks. Bucky is struting around with the girls outside. I don't think that rooster will be coming over anytime time soon.

I think you are doing fine Maxx. I live in the country where stray dogs and other domesticated animals may come onto our land and create a problem. Not much chance of a stray rooster showing up, because everyone around us has commercial houses.
If and when there is a problem with a stray animal bothering either my birds or the cattle we have on the farm or the animals our neighbors keep, we do the neighborly thing and discuss it with the owner of the offending animal. In an emergency situation where one of my animals or the cattle (that belong to a neighbor, but are here on our place by agreement) are in immediate danger, I have a rifle and I know how to use it. I can't think of a single person that lives in this area that wouldn't understand if I had to shoot their animal in that situation. I'd try to keep it from coming to that, but I will do what I have to do to protect what's mine.
I am very much against having to alter my animals lifestyle on account of someone else's animal being where it doesn't belong.
The offending rooster belongs to your neighbor and it's the neighbor's responsibility to handle it.

Why would you go inside and get on the computer when your beloved rooster is fighting and getting beaten up? Break it UP!!! Get a broom, get the hose, use your foot- what ever you have on hand- and swat the invading rooster back to his yard. YOU are the dominant rooster here, chase off the other one. Then doctor Bucky the rooster, then go talk to your friend the neighbor. This is like me getting on the computer and say saying my neighbor's dog is in my yard chasing my chickens- what do I do? When I see a dog, I go running out there with a broom/rake or a leash- depending on if I recognize the dog or think I can catch it. Take action mister, not typing. Bucky may have won, but he is suffering right now- just like if YOU got in a fist fight and got a black eye, bloody nose and split lip. He probably won't die, but don't delude yourself that he is not suffering right now. His head and legs are sore for sure.

This is why i will not have roosters...
Be CAREFUL!! Bucky has a lot to go thru right now, pay lots of attention to his injuries - - - and if it happens again give that rooster a good downing with a hose from me!
