I use the Sevin Dust treatment, it's only like 6 bucks for a whole big can and it's always worked great for me!

well I got this stuff called pestene. it was either this or some other thing in a tub that the guy said would slowly poison the chooks and me

arggg. pestene please.

I will try and get some information on it and see what you all think.

Also, the stuff is a powder.

guess what

I go down to the coop to put this stuff on the broodies ( in the pouring rain ) and while I was down there one of my ladies let me know there was A HUGE SNAKE in their big run. so now all the chookies are locked away in the small runs.
lucky I didn't let out the bantams today or we would no longer have any to lock up again.
seriously, what more could go wrong.

REALLY BAD NEWS

This morning when I was doing all the chicken stuff I checked the eggs that are meant to hatch tomorrow and under one cranky, tranced broody there was a pip. yay. I checked it again after about an hour, still good. I splashed some water under her so the humidity was higher.
went back down after another hour and she had riped it out of the shell, eaten it's yolk sack and broken it's neck.

I was so ( and still am ) mad at her. I threw her out the pop door in the rain and have given the other egg to the other broody.
I am so angry and and and well... shattered

What are the chances of the other broody doing this too?

I have told this story before, I can't remember if I told you or not ....

I had 3 broodies sitting, all due the same day. Each one of them killed their first hatched chick. I don't know why, but they did.

They did fine with the others though.

Well I don't really want to give her the other egg back. Is that right of me?

Yoy gave the other eggs to another broody? Is she due to hatch NOW? If she is due now, it should be ok, but if her other eggs are not yet due, I don't know.

they are all due to hatch at the same time. They're all supposed to hatch tomorrow.
