Oh Well...Just returned from Sensitivity Training...I have to be " PC " and be aware of others feeling by posting nothing that may upset.
So I deleted the offending material as to not offend the more sensitive. Hugs, Kisses and Happy Thoughts for all...JJ:love

Well I wasn't expecting that! I think you have the right to be as rude, crude, funny or offensive as you wish, in America at least there is an Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing your freedom to do and be exactly that. But people also have the right to vote with their feet, pocketbooks, checkbooks and voices. In other words, they don't have to agree with or like your humor. But just because they don't, that doesn't mean anybody is forcing you to take it down. Shrug. Unless you choose to be influenced by the court of popular opinion. And that's totally up to you. There were some who thought it was funny. Some didn't. I'm curious now though. Is @Chef JimmyJ and @bigz1983 one and the same person???

LOL...Normally, the only thing " PC " about me is the Computer I type on!
But my Lovey Wife, read my posts, shook her head and told me, " I'm new here and need to be nicer..." Since She tends to be right regarding how abrasive I can be, I gave in to her suggestion that I clean up my posts...
BTW...Then I went and Cleaned my Guns...JJ :thumbsup

It IS a joke, and that's a bit of the problem, right? Humor is inherently critical (even puns are largely a criticism of language), there's no non critical jokes in the world, and this is only funny because it's critical of people's reactions to death or dead/unwanted chickens. That's how gallows humor works, it's funny BECAUSE it's messed up to be so callous, and because of that it's often VERY personal.
(Examples abound; Friend falls and is unharmed = funny! Friend falls and DIES = Funny? Maybe not, but maybe?)

Obviously being critical of people for humor isn't inherently bad by any means. But probably not nearly as OK to crack jokes at people who already feel bad, vulnerable, and/or you want to get something from them?
And this is an "ADVERTISEMENT" at that. Nothing says "Give me free stuff!" like "Haha! Your discomfort is so funny!".

So OP'll get chickens from people who just can't be bothered or aren't bothered. But not from a whole swath of the rest of the free chicken market who will just be extra grossed out or maybe since this is their only interaction they may wonder if he's going to 'care' for the birds the way he 'cares' for those people he's upsetting.

And if that doesn't matter to the OP - and he's said that upsetting people doesn't - then he's welcome to carry on. But the boorish humor becomes deliberate not ignorant then, and I am just more than done with all that noise. Being mean is boring and easy and there are just so many better and more clever ways of handling things.
THANK YOU! I now know I'm not the only one who was appalled by this!

Hmm. I guess... if I saw two ads from two different companies, both wanting my excess roos for the same purpose.... and one guy had this "funny" ad with the chopped chicken head on it, and the other guy had a more tasteful ad of, say, a dressed-out bird, making it equally clear that the fate of the roo was not going to be a life of happy retirement but rather early usefulness as a meat product - and I had to choose between the two - I would go with the latter. Why? Because the second showed compassion and respect toward both my sensitivities and the animal. The first is like yahoo, I get to kill your rooster, I'm a bludgering maniac with an axe! The second is, killing is necessary, this is a food product but we respect life and treat death with dignity. Like some of our ancestors did.

But yeah, that's just me.
Thank you! I love seeing people who treat creatures with dignity.
@ChocolateMouse If I saw this add in my local News Paper's Classified Ads, I would be appalled and contact the Editor to see if the Staff had lost their minds!
Here were anonymity can prompt people to post all kinds of crazy stuff, I Knew it was a Joke, tasteless as it may be. I didn't have much of a response either way. I wasn't Rolling on the Floor Laughing, or Burst into tears envisioning my Favorite Roo's Head by the Ax...JJ
I agree!
Join the club! :highfive:
oh, just by caring about animals I have too:highfive::lol:

Oh, now there’s a fun thought... I should totally create a separate account so I can argue with myself and make inflammatory posts! (Sarcasm... as in I wouldn’t, but could see it being done. Not implying that I think this is the case here)

I don’t mind a tasteless joke now and then, as long as the raising, and slaughtering is done humanely. And I don’t believe that just because someone has an inflammatory or somewhat “tacky” ad that that is necessarily an indication of a lack of proficiency or in-humane practices.

Butchers, for all that they deal with dead animals day in and day out, turning them into meat for consumption, are often the kindest and most compassionate towards animals.

Hmm.. that hasn't been my experience at all.. but I'm sure there are some, I don't mind people butchering, as long as it's done humanley, but I sometimes am bothered a bit by the gross jokes.

Woah, okay. Nobody is going to mistake your feelings on this subject, ever! I will give you that. I respect your opinion. I just don't share it.

Me, I prefer to take life in general with a grain of salt. My butchered chickens in fact need a few grains of salt, but that is my personal preference.

Some people just NEED to be outraged, by something. I'm not one of those people, I have enough other stuff on my hands to not go looking for a reason to be offended by another's (maybe crude) sense of humor. To each their own, I got enough of my own stuff to worry about.

As for the OP's original post and ad, sure....if you can catch my extra males you can have em. I need a few goats run down and "removed" too, want my number?? Butchering onsite at my place is totally cool if that is more convenient for you.....

.

A whole genre of Comedians from Lenny Bruce to Andrew Dice Clay and more, made millions being Crude and Offensive. Not your thing? Don't buy a ticket. It's the people that Protested the show that made no sense to me...JJ

Here's another thought: OP wanted this thread to turn into a melee. He posted the same ad on another thread previously and got similar remarks. I guess he enjoyed the results so much, he devoted a whole thread to it.

Congrats, OP. You got what you wanted. Now go eat your chicken and stop purposefully antagonizing the BYCers.
:p
