THEY ARE ALIVE! help please!

Sounds like your humidity is too low...the veins you could see - were they big fat ones or little bitty spider looking ones? As just for reference, humidity is not raised or lowered according to how deep the water level is but by how large an area of open water you have. So it can be super shallow bu if it covers a large area your humidty will be higher than something that is real deep but has a small area of surface water....did that make sense?

that made perfect sense. The whole bottom of the bator is water. All the spaces are filled. I did put in the moist towel.

the viens I could see were barely even spider viens. Very, very tiny. I had to really look for them.

With getting the humidity up will the problem right itself, or will I have to help them? It has been up for 3 hours and there is no change. I am assuming it is up because the glass is cloudy around the edges. The humidity thing has not moved. Took it out and it didn't move. OPbviously it has stopped working. Gah.

OK, so from here where do I go?

You have been such a huge help. You have no idea how much I appreciate it!

OK, spider veins barely there sounds like it *should* be hatching. Using your tweezers, slowly and bit by bit crack/peel away the shell until you are close to the inner membrane without pulling or tearing the membrane. Has the chick pipped the membrane yet? Does the membrane seem soft or kinda firm? Once you have the upper portion of shell away, using your WARM wet paper towel drop 1-2 drops on the membrane and wait for it to make the membrane transparent. Look for veins. Look for the position of the chicks beak (assuming it has not broken the membrane yet). If you can locate it's beak or where you think the beak would be, poke a very tiny hole in the membrane. Wait a sec and check for blood. If there is blood like it is flowing and not like jelly stop and wait 30 minutes. If there is no blood tear a very minute bit of the membrane. All this time you need to be keeping the membrane wet and transparent so you can see what is happening underneath. After making the initial tear, wait for 30 minutes then working your way around the shell as if it were the chick hatching, tear another very small tear and wait 30 minutes.

It has not broken through the membrane. I am off to start this. Thank you again. I will report soon. I wish you were here to hold my hand!!!

OK, as soon as I chipped away the shell and moisened the membrane the chick put it's beak through so I put it back in the bator and will watch it. There was no blood, but I there are still some viens that I can see now. Mostly spider viens but one that is a bit bigger, ot big by any means, but a touch bigger. The chick seems very excited.. or ticked.. who knows. I can't believe how folded up they are.
