I work from home, so I have the brooder set up in my office so I can keep an eye on my 2 chicks during the day. I also let them out to play for a good part of the day. Whenever I leave the room, even for just a few minutes, they cry like they're being tortured. As soon as they see me come back or hear my voice they settle down. They also follow me around the room so closely that I have to be careful that I don't step on them. Is this normal? Am I spending too much time with them?

Thats sooo cute! My current chicks are going through the "I hate mommy" phase.

Mine do the same thing.... they've just imprinted on you and instinct says "call mom back before predators get me!" if they can't see you. Enjoy it while you can! They will eventually want to go out on their own and play keep away from you.
