They want to make it ALL illegal. What do you think of Senate Bill 510

This bill cant stop people from growing veggies for their OWN consumption. As long as you dont sell/trade your food..your safe.
But it CAN stop small time farmers from growing and selling at our local farm stands and such...

I buy A LOT of veggies in the summer from these farm stands... now i guess i'll need to buy my veggies from Walmart??
This really bugs me!
All this bill will hurt is small time local farmers
Wonder what it will do to folks that sell their eggs locally?

I'd love to ask the Congressmen, Senators, POTUS...

Scenario One
Tomato plant in my backyard. I know the soil. I know what's added to the soil. I know whose hands have handled it. I know when it was picked, ripe, from the vine. I know how it was washed. Then it's eaten.

Scenario Two
Tomato plant somewhere else. I don't know the soil. I don't know what's added to the soil. I don't know what chemicals have been sprayed on the plant. I don't know whose hands have handled the plant, or if they bothered washing. I don't know if they think urine is a good fertilizer or if they prefer raw sewage flooding. I don't know when the unripe tomato was picked. I don't know how that tomato was ripened, chemical or time, but I'm betting on chemical. I don't know whose hands picked that tomato, of if they washed. I don't know whose hands crated that tomato, and if they washed. I don't know if the crate was clean. I don't know if anything spilled on that crate on the way to the truck. I don't know who loaded that crate on the truck, and if they washed. I don't know if the tomato was damaged or contaminated in that truck. I don't know who unloaded that truck, and if they washed. I don't know if the dock was clean or not. I don't know who loaded the crate onto a ship, and if they washed. I don't know if the storage on ship was clean, or if the crate was contaminated. I don't know who unloaded the ship, or if they washed. I don't know if the that dock was clean, or if seagulls pooped galore. I don't know whose hands loaded the crates onto a truck, or if they washed. I don't know if the truck is clean, or if the tomato was contaminated en route. I don't know whose hands unloaded the truck at the plant, or if they washed. I don't know if the conveyor was clean. I don't know if the new English crates were clean. I don't know whose hands packed the crates into new trucks for distribution, or if they washed. I don't know if that truck was clean. I don't know who unloaded the truck at the store, and if they washed. I don't know who all handled the tomato in the back, and if they washed. I don't know who stocks the produce area, and if they washed. I do know who rang up my order, and I do know that they didn't wash their hands between handling the last person's money and my produce.

So... between the two... which do you think inspires MORE trust in the biosecurity of the tomato that I will feed to my child?

Yes I realize that tomatoes may not be imported from a place that requires shipping over sea, but just for example's sake...

I'm so excited to see so much conversation about this horrid piece of legislation! If people are not aware of this, then they cannot speak out against it. It's about FREEDOM, yall! Whether it affects us personally or not, we have to stand for FREEDOM! This applies to everything! They will eventually come for something that is important to you whether it be your garden, your business and heaven forbid our chickens!

Well, Looks Like The VOTE ON THE 18th Will Determine Whether I Turn Off The Incubators Or Not

Bill passed in the Senate, but with the $500,000 amendment with it. House will now have to pass the same bill. They passed a similar version in the past.

It will go to reconciliation. No telling what the final form will look like. This bill should be called the MONSANTO BILLION DOLLAR SUBSIDY BILL.

I've read some on this, though I probably need to read more but so far I'm seeing some differences than what ya'll are saying here. It seems to me that it's mostly about making the large food producers be safer and face more inspection etc, and there were riders (amendments?) put on it to make it not apply to small producers and local businesses etc. Like I said, I'm going to keep reading and looking things up, but this all seems to be an attempt BY companies like Monsanto to freak people out so it does NOT pass, because it makes them more liable and have to be more careful.
