They want to make it ALL illegal. What do you think of Senate Bill 510

Quote:
Looking at that map made me think.... It drives me crazy that some of the states that got to vote on this bill don't even have farms or food producers, yet they want to regulate other states, such as mine, on how to produce the food. That makes no sense to me. Notice that my two senators voted "nay". That's because they know that farming is the way many here make a living.

I am gritting my teeth here. I AM a food producer. I DO sell my eggs, vegetables, etc. I NEED that income. This is about destroying the basic farming way of life. When they shut down my local Farmer's Market, and force me to take the Eggs for Sale sign out of my yard, I will have to go back to a full time job. In an economy that already has more available workers than jobs, this is just plain STUPIDITY! I understand that people don't want to get sick from the food they buy. But that is an argument FOR buying from your neighbor, not against it. The people that buy from me at the FM are my friends and neighbors. They know me, have visited my farm, trust my practices. I have no idea who those blokes are that put that food on the shelves at Walmart! If you can't know your supplier, you are trusting a stranger with your life. My government has proven itself untrustworthy in so many ways. I just can't fathom why I should trust them to feed me.

Yes it is. It is about power, control, and money for a select few.

If you follow this link and scroll down, it indicates that this bill is dead - while it was approved by the vote, it did not get signed into law, and has expired with that session of Congress. So perhaps now is the time to start educating the new crop of elected representatives that we disagree with what the big agri-businesses are trying to push?

My autistic kid can't handle foods sprayed with pesticides, or enhanced with antibiotics or hormones, so yeah, I'm working to grow/raise most of our food. And since he won't eat anything he's met (meat-wise), that leaves his main source of protein as eggs. And as my user-name says, he especially loves green-shelled eggs! My girls are healthy, and the ones that may get sick, will be culled. We have to be able to raise our own food... not just for my son, but also for me AND to sell a little extra for the little extras in life, like snow-boots and gas!

That's one of the reasons I'm working a cross-breed (Silger) that will be very small, quiet, and produce beautiful eggs while still being a pet.

So maybe that one didn't pass. But you can be sure they'll try again.

This country keeps trying to regulate every aspect of living, and that's just WRONG. The more they stick their hands in our pies, the more they mess things up. Shame on you, USA government! The founding fathers would knock you silly for messing up their vision, and their country!

This bill is now hidden in another, can't remember now which one, I think it is listed in this tread though.

here is your food control bill.
H.R. 2751:

FDA Food Safety Modernization Act.

they took the language from 510 which failed and put it in h.r. 2751, after they stripped the original wording from from h.r. 2751 which was passed in 2009. now the food safety is in place and does not need to be voted on because h.r. 2751 was previously voted on and accepted. i read h.r. 2751 and i still don't know what it says.
