They're Bigger, Badder, and Better. The best protein for chickens!

Well, I'm pretty excited, as I just ordered the 190 kit from The Roach Guy! The only problem is that Hubby doesn't know I actually ordered them, and he just said he doesn't want roaches here-----oops!

I'll just have to sneak them in and keep them in the kids room or something.......

I asked about the roaches at our local pet store, they didn't have any, but the other their other store in a nearby town does----$3.00/each!!!!

So glad I didn't decide to go that way!

No problem.

Only 1% of all roach species are viewed as pests. All others stick to the leaf litter eating decomposing matter, like this species.

Thank you for answering all those.

Oh my, thanks for sharing that! Certainly something to think about.

Never thought I'd be excited about roaches---but I am. Mine should be here tomorrow, and I'm almost looking forward to getting them as I am when I have chicks coming----weird, huh?

Just got done reading this whole thread - wow, food for thought (no pun intended). I've done crickets (epic fail) and have had a successful mealworm colony for the last 18 months but been a little disappointed that its only produced enough for the occasional treat - not a true protein supplement. So now I'm thinking I might give these a go. Luckily DH is always accommodating of my strange and unusual hobbies and ideas

I shared a seedy apartment for a short time with a large number of roaches and share most people's dislike of the kind that want to live in food containers in the kitchen. On the other hand, my mother gets a naturally occurring cockroach in her area that is apparently not a pest and is very good at composting so whenever she finds one, she throws it in the compost bin to take advantage of it. Sounds like these resemble my mother's roaches more than the ones that cause disgust for most people so I'm certainly game to get to know them better.

Off to research the website you mentioned on the first page. Thanks for the new idea

Yep! Mealworms are great treat which requires almost no effort to grow. They aren't as high in protein as most people think of them, though. Roaches, on the otherhand, are bigger, higher in protein, and breed very well, great for protein.

Mine are at the P.O. now----will be here before lunch!!!! Hope hubby leaves for work before then.

He still doesn't know I ordered them, and I have an 18 gal. tub set up where I'm hoping he won't notice them----thank goodness they're quiet!

Great idea, but roaches make my skin crawl had an incident with a roach in my blouse once and my insect tolerance was never quite the same.
