My chicks have left the building!:wee

So my hubby got me 10 EEs and 5 Barred Rock pullets from Cackle Hatchery. They ship out today and I just got my tracking info.

Praying and fingers crossed that my babies have a safe and QUICK trip. Lord please let my chicks get here safely with no delays or harm to them. :fl

I've never ordered chicks through the mail and I admit I'm a nervous wreck. I'm trying not to read any "bad stories" and only focus on good thoughts. I know I have to be prepared for anything when it comes to shipping chicks, but man oh man! I haven't even met these babies yet and I'm already in love with them.

I'm just grateful I have y'all to vent to and fret about it with...I think I've talked poor DHs ear off about these chicks the past 2 days.

So if you're the praying type, please feel free to say a quick one for my chickies on their ride from Missouri to California.:hugsThanks!

Call your local post office and let them know you are expecting live chicks and ask them to hold the box there when they arrive and to call you so you can go pick them up.
:fl For healthy live chicks!

Thank you all so much :)
I will definitely be calling my PO to alert them to my incoming chicks. I want them to call me AS SOON as they get in the parking lot. I don't care if it's 2am! Lol!:D

I also ordered birds through the mail for the first time and I share your anxiety! I've heard so many horror stories about things going wrong, mainly due to errors at the post office  but the closer I get to their delivery date the more optimistic I feel!

Sending thoughts and prayers your way for the arrival of happy healthy chicks!

5 of my chicks I ordered from My Pet chicken this past May. I'd ordered 6 but 1 bantam was DOA. I think the other ones crushed her . The other bantam was pretty weak on arrival so I called the company and they suggested sugar water and she perked right up! She's now the bully to the big girls The rest are doing amazing, healthy and happy. I hope yours arrive safe and sound. I bet you can't wait

Okay here's what you need to do .these chicks are going to be traveling through hot weather. they are going to be travel stressed when they get to you. go to Tractor Supply or your local feed store and get a small bottle of Bovidr Labs Poultry Nutri -Drench. I've use this product for over 15 years on my Collies and my poultry. it's exceptional. all natural . When the chicks arrive ,give each chick one drop only by mouth . If the chick is needy, repeat as needed every 8 to 10 hours until the chick is perky. then put a half a teaspoon in each quart water . do this Drench water for the first week the birds are at your house.

this product is an emergency nutritional supplement. it will help restore your birds immune system; give them quick energy that doesn't need to be digested .the product is measurable in the bloodstream in 10 minutes with 99% utilization. it will perk your birds up and keep them from suffering from travel stress and pasty butt. it will jump-start the GI tract so that they can better Digest the food that you're going to be giving them during the first week while they adjust to their new house . No need for apple cider vinegar in their water . No need for electrolytes in their water. the poultry Nutri-Drench will take care of both of those. The molasses in the poultry Nutri-Drench will help regulate their bowels.
If Poultry Nutridrench is not available you can use goat Nutridrench. Just make sure that you use the poultry instructions above when you dose them. I raised 42 Light Sussex chicks on Goat Nutridrench using the poultry dosage instructions above and had excellent success.
One of the Geniuses behind poultry Nutridrench is that it does not need to be digested . Drench mainlines directly into the bloodstream.
When a chick is stressed ,one of the first things that happens is it loses the ability to effectively uptake the nutrition and helps you are giving it. In other words, you can feed it sugar water ,you can feed it all kinds of supplements. However, if the GI tract is stressed and not up taking them efficiently, those helps aren't getting to the chick's body systems and it continues to be stressed.
The Bovidr Labs Drenches main line directly into the bloodstream. They do not need to be digested and that is why one of the reasons they are such a superior help. They also contain more helpful ingredients than your basic electrolyte solution. So they uplifting more of the chicks total physiology than an electrolyte solution or sugar water would.
Best Regards,
Karen and the Light Sussex in Western Pennsylvania
