They've gone too far!!

Kitchen bandits, yard sharks, heathens, or most commonly "the buzzards" are some of the names for my flock.

We used to have an EE roo ("Spike") that would come to the back door and crow until my wife came out and gave him some bread. And they say chickens are dumb! He had US trained!

Oh, my rooster walks around the whole house crowing trying to get me to come out. Not gonna work. I refuse to be trained by a rooster.

Our chickens are also opportunists and they have decided we mean food. even if there feeder is full as soon as we open the door they are running for us. We have to throw out scratch grains or even layer feed for them to scratch off the ground before we can get anything done. I love it! We only have one chicken who tries to come in. She is a White Faced Black spanish hen. Her name is Matilda because she is naughty! Most of the time DH just calls her attatudey. Her sister Malinda would rather not be touched but Matilda just loves it! And is always going where she shouldn't go.

Its working for me. My wife told me this morning at 5:45 "I just heard a bGAWK ". Out I go to let them out before the neighbors lose tolerance.

Our chickens are like lab rats. They have learned that door opening = food , and here they come.

On the subject of cats, mine lays on the golf cart sleeping with the chickens all around her. We even caught her trying to lay with the chickens up under the bushes where they usually hang out during the day for siesta. And the chihuahua is terrified of them. They were eating one day and she went and tried to take something from them. She learned not to mess with the big birds! So now she just grazes along with them through the yard and minds her own business.

I have two hens that are addictive to dry dog food. They are always sneaking in the house to eat it. They can be clear across the yard and when I feed the dogs they are right there. I think they can sniff it out a miles away. They also have been cought on the couch watching TV.

I had a hen in the house for an attempted photo-shoot. She went into the kids' room and looked just like she was ice skating on the slippery floor. She hated being in here, and when I returned her to her yard, I swear I've never seen a chicken so happy! I hope she told the rest about her horrible stint in the house.
