Not sure what can be done about it, other than hope it works itself out.

I think you are right. I looked again at the photo more closely and can see membrane now.

It's an egg within an egg (at least a shell-less one with no apparent yolk)

I would be worried if it was every egg and going on for several days, rather than a one off aberration. Not sure which it is.
 
One of our chickens is laying eggs like this. But I don't know which one. Did you ever find an answer? We've cooked them and they seemed fine. It's also laying eggs that are so thin the break when we pick it up. I'm assuming it's the same chicken since it's in the same box.
OP hasn’t been seen in 3 years you are better off creating your own thread good luck on helping your hen.
