Rainbow brites

She-rah (SP) and Heman

Ridding in the back of a pickup and dangling my legs off the tail gait.

Ridding on the tire fenders of any of the tractors my dad drove and sleeping on bean sacks in the fields while my dad planted.

LOL

just a few things that stick out in my mind.....

See if anyone has this one.
Buying day old chicks for a dime from the place one block down the street. Hatchery set right next door to a grocery store. This would have been 1967 or 68. Nobody questioning what two kids barely 7 years old are going to do with a couple of dollars worth of chicks. Parents did not wonder how we got the money to buy them, they knew we had earned it.
Still no grown up stepped in to tell us about brooders and such. They let us live and learn. I think kids where more important than chicks in those days.

The yellow sign with the red arrow is for Sunoco gas company. The tank used to have gauges for you to "dial" the octane you wanted in your gasoline. They weren't out west, mostly midwesten/eastern states.
Bull Durham tobacco in fabric bags with papers to roll your own cigarettes. Prince Albert in a can. Penny arcades with real games for pennies. Having to wear a hankie on your head if you weren't wearing a hat to church. Having the church bells call the parish to mass. Sidewalks made of real slate (faster to roller skate on) instead of rough concrete. Skateboards that didn't look a thing like the ones today (and you couldn't do all the things on them that you could today LOL)
Joker B/Leo bloodlines in Appaloosa horses.
Wistful sigh...............

When not every house owned a TV set.
Those lucky enough to have a huge wooden-cased behemoth with a teeny (7"?) B&W screen invited everyone else over to watch Uncle Miltie Berle on Tuesday nights.
Later there was:
Hit Parade
What's My Line
Ted Mack's Amateur Hour

When did everyone get allergic to peanuts?
99.9% of schoolbox lunchboxes had PB&J and somehow we all lived.

Sinclair gasoline signs with the brontosaurus.
What was the gas company that had the red & white Pegasus-shaped signs?

I loved to watch "Family Affair", remember Buffy & Jody & Sissy. Uncle Bill and Mr. French. And the star of the show: Mrs. Beasley!!

For Christmas this year a local station ran some episodes of old shows - Petticoat Junction, Family Affair, etc. The family affair episode had Eve Plumb playing an ill class mate of Buffy's. Shock of all shock, she didn't get miraculously healed at the end of the show. And the kids cried over it. THat would never play in this day and age, LOL!
