Things you remember but that most young folks never heard of. Pre 1980

Is it interesting that we could (out of all the kids in the neighborhood) know our Mom's yell or Dad's whistle. Everybody would stop and listen, then one would leave. I swear you could be blocks away from home and still hear them. Was it just because there was less "noise" in the world or did my Mom have that big of a mouth?!

We were in a store where there was a smoke shop section in the back. The sign said, "To enter, you must be old enough to know who shot J.R." The clerk said a kid asked him once, "How am I supposed to know who shot Junior?"

Wikipedia says:
"Ultimately, the person who pulled the trigger was revealed to be Kristin Shepard (played by Mary Crosby) in the "Who Done It?" episode which aired on November 21, 1980. Kristin was J. R.'s scheming sister-in-law and mistress, who shot him in a fit of anger. J. R. did not press charges, as Kristin claimed she was pregnant with his child as a result of their affair"

also

During the 1980 United States presidential election, the Republicans distributed campaign buttons that claimed "A Democrat shot J. R."
