Things you remember but that most young folks never heard of. Pre 1980

Black @ White TV. The programs would go off at night to the star spangled banner.

Yeah, I remember this as well. Didn't get color TV till I was about 12. It was several weeks before I could see the color. I guess my imagination filled in the color on the B & W, so I didn't notice the change.

Federal FCC regulation wrote in the 1950s regulating commercials on TV. It was pulled in 1984 per wiki....

Ahhhh the rotary phone, you had to remember someones number or look it up in the phone book and no presets either. My house had the first remote controlled TV, my father would have us get up and change the channel. You could still say God, Christmas and the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools but I digress.
 
We had a party line with the phones; points and condensers etc in cars; Hudson River was a mess, you were afraid to go in it; shows - wild wild west, mutual of Omaha, Gilligan's island
 
music was good back then, Beatles, Eagles, Hollies, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Simon and Garfunkel, Billy Joel, Rolling Stones. etc.
cartoons were good some of them maybe a little sexist and racist but never obnoxious or obsence. Looney tunes, Smurfs, Scooby doo, Tom and Jerry, Muppets
