Things you wish you could say

Boohoo, I have a mean rooster who keeps flogging my children but I don't have time to get him off the roost to cull him. Yet, here I am, on the internet, wasting time and whining about life, when I could be doing the deed. Boohoo, whoa is me. And then I'm going to get offended when someone suggests just throwing the body away instead of butchering.

Not every rooster has to be eaten. Especially if you've never butchered and don't want to take him to someone to do it.
Dogs love chicken and rooster meat. But they do make a mess with feathers, so don't let them eat them inside.

So what are you saying? Quit whining and take care of it? :D

Bingo! I had to unwatch the thread or I'd get kicked off this site!

I'm tired of the "every single person should be allowed to raise chickens regardless of where they live" and the "if you can't butcher, you shouldn't be allowed to eat meat of any type" arguments.

Not every person has the SPACE to raise birds. What about the thousands who live in apartments? There is not enough space on the roof to even have a single bird for each name on a lease in some of them. And don't even try the argument that they can keep a bird or two inside those apartments.

And not everyone can or wants to butcher every type of animal. Personally I'm fine butchering rabbits and poultry, but honestly I'm not sure I could butcher large animals and definitely not fish. Not to mention that I physically don't have the SPACE to raise larger animals (especially beef) for processing. Does that mean I'm only 'allowed' to eat rabbit and poultry?

Sorry, I'm just sick of those arguments seeming to be a bandaid for everything

I do believe that---provided they have the space. Your apartment scenario makes me rethink how to say it. Everybody with a yard?

Yeah, just as bad as the vegan high horse. Get off the high horses!

That I could agree a bit more with, but some lots (at least where I live near) are tiny. I wouldn't have a dog live in them all day, let alone a chicken coop that's large enough for a flock of chickens. I dunno, I just don't think it's realistic now to expect every homeowner to be able to own chickens anymore.

Good point, I lived in a duplex that had a bigger yard than these "upscale" neighborhoods, but I doubt those are the people that would want chickens anyway. I hate those ticky-tacky people...big house on a lot so small to high five the neighbor window to window. SMH

I mostly agree, but I have had times when I could post on the internet but could not butcher a chicken. Obvious example, the 10 minutes between wiping up vomit when the family has the flu. Or while supervising kids' homework, if they will work in my presence but not when I leave the room.

Howver, I agree that there is a point where one just needs to make time to deal with the problem. When a child throws up or breaks their leg, you find time to deal with that, no matter how busy you thought you were. Sometimes a rooster gets to the same level of needing to be dealt with, even when there is "no time." So you skip or delay something else, even if you thought the other thing was essential. And yes, you can kill the rooster and throw away the body-- the butchering & cooking is not "essential."

I had a moment a few minutes ago where I had to delete a reply before sending.
