Things you wish you could say

We did not just experience a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. That does not happen in NJ.
That's insane! Did you have any damage? We had maybe a 2.2 or 2.7 something last month, and everyone was talking about it for weeks like we survived some major event 😅

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I've had pretty bad luck with neighbors in 3 different homes. No one has any boundaries or consideration for others. So I have cameras. When we had the chickens, they had their own camera. And I've actually used the footage to nab a trespasser through the police. I hate that this is the world we live in, but what can you do.

GET OFF MY LAWN, PEOPLE!
* shakes fist aggressively at sky *
I'm grateful that most of my neighbours are good people. When I first discovered this, I sent out a text to my neighbour group just in case anyone saw something, and within 10 minutes, two of my neighbours were here helping me catch birds. They got a jar of mayak eggs as a thank you. One of those neighbours was one of the two who tried to rescue Nugget (my rooster) from the bad neighbour's dog.

I've been hearing from other neighbours stories about my bad neighbour too. Looks like I'm not the only one who has had unpleasant encounters with her or her daughter. I've had some decent interactions with the daughter. She and her friend used to come over and I'd feed them and entertain them for a bit. They stopped visiting sometime last year after I made it clear that the bad neighbour's daughter didn't have free range to raid my pantry as she pleased. I'm willing to feed them, but what I choose, not the special things that I have to order online for myself.

4.8 is a decent earthquake, but shouldn't cause much damage. Maybe I'm just used to CA where they build for earthquakes.

We are located perhaps 15 miles S of the epicenter. Daughter is perhaps 10 miles N of the epicenter. She had a clock fall off the wall - nothing here.
I am about the same distance from the epicenter but in the other direction. I haven’t seen any damage.

I just hate it when that happens…’Cause ya never really know when or if the sh*t is going to hit the fan or not.

Always still best to be prepared.
Totally agree. I learned that my Standard poodle is deathly afraid of entering my tornado shelter (big hole in the floor with stairs) in my garage. He's so big and the stairs were so steep, we probably could have forced it in an actual emergency, but would have been risking injury. Another thing I'll need to train him to be happy about...

We don't get earthquakes either. Until last year. The Bigs made a ruckus, made Dad wake up and wake me up to check the chooks, and we heard people talking about it for the next eon.

We had a 4 in CA when I was very small. I thought if I went with Mom to the store I'd be safe from it.
Remember with the Richter scale, that each number is twice the strength of the previous. For example, a 4.0 is twice as strong as a 3.0. A 5.0 is twice as strong as a 4.0. A 4.0 is a pretty minor quake. 4.8 is almost twice that, though. Strong enough to feel, but not enough to cause much damage as long as the building codes in the area are decent.
