Too funny. I grew up being taught that it wasn't a word. Still not going to use it, though. It sounds redundant.

That is fine. Personally I like it better than the alternative.

"Irregardless" is NOT a real word, you mean, "regardless".

I'm tempted to say, "antidisirregardless" whenever I hear irregardless.

Merriam-Webster defines irregardless as "nonstandard" but meaning the same as "regardless." "Many people find irregardless to be a nonsensical word, as the ir- prefix usually functions to indicates negation; however, in this case it appears to function as an intensifier," the dictionary writes.

Just read that on the internet when I googled the "ir" word.

Look it up. Irregardless is a real word and means the same as regardless.

I'm not sure but they probably promoted it because of it's frequent misuse. Like a social promotion.

I haven't experienced that at all--most people around here wear a mask in stores/around other people. The ones without a mask risk getting spoken to, or not allowed into store

It seems to be more common in the rural states. everyone here thinks that A) it's not real B) that everyone is vaccinated since we all were allowed to vaccinate instead of certain groups waiting or C) that there are so few of us compared to almost all the other states that it's fine. Sometimes they feel more than one reason.

I am rural--but many locals here are leery about the vaccine---taking a wait and see attitude. I still mask and distance
