Things you wish you could say

In the past there were far more contagious and lethal diseases;
I agree with you 100 percent there, and also, weren't there laws passed called 'Right To Try' laws, that allows people to try experimental drugs if they believe they may help their conditions? It was intended mainly for terminally ill patients and new experimental drugs, but of course would apply pretty much anywhere in the medical field.

So you are jabbing people with an experimental concoction, many do not trust nor want, yet when people want to use Ivermectin, a well known, long standing and over and over again proven drug...you say no. Why? what happened to right to try? You force me to get one unproven thing, yet won't let me try another, (which actually IS proven to work?) Then tell me trust you? That's what Hitler said when he forced people to do things too. How quickly ignorant generations forget history and it repeats. But as long as I have wifi and can post selfies then all is good right:?

You are also correct in that this could potentially turn into a huge kerfluffle as opinions and beliefs vary wildly from one extreme to the other. I wonder if a thread could be started on this topic, maybe in the off topic section or if it'd quickly become horrible?

Things I wish I could say, rant...

After 30 years of faithfully paying my telephone/internet/TV bill from our one and only provider for our rural area, they received some DMCA complaints from a computer in California saying that I was downloading Bevis and Butthead and South Park files! Dear Wife and I are in our 60's, and have never watched either of those cartoons. Although I protested that I was not downloading these files, my internet provider turned off my internet access. I guess any possible threat from a computer generated report on DMCA violations is much more important than my 30 years of paying for their service. So, I was thrown under the bus without a care on my provider's account.

Since I was banned from an internet account, we had to reopen an account under Dear Wife's name - for the same house. Again, we have only one provider in my rural area. So they pretty much can dictate how they treat us. Anyway, I have been trying to clear my name and work with the company that sent out the DMCA complaints. Turns out that the company in question, down in California, does not have anyone available to answer their phones. And, they don't respond to any emails. I contacted their building manager and asked if this was a real company with real people actually working at their site. He told me that there has been nobody there since the start of the pandemic, and he himself was unable to reach any body at their leased office space.

Long story short, I was banned from the internet by a computer generated report that I cannot resolve the issue because nobody at that company is even around to respond to my attempts to clear up this situation. I am dealing with a ghost company in California sending out automated reports and a local internet provider who would rather ban me from service than to help a customer of over 30+ years.

I wish I could say $#?! @&*$ to both that company in California, but even more so to my local provider who threw me under the bus. If/When I find any other way to get internet service where I live, I'll be dumping my current provider over this issue.

OK, that was my rant. Unfortunately, I don't feel any better...

Ugh, how frustrating! Reminds me of insurance companies. You pay on time all the time and the first claim you file, they either dump you or raise your rates. And they don't even cover what was destroyed! Looking at you, Allstate

Have you checked with your cell phone provider. Many of them also offer data plans that you can get internet on your phone and tether your computer to, usb cable, wifi, blue tooth etc etc. That might be an option.

I feel your frustration there and it is infuriating. Then they wonder what would drive people to fly planes into the sides of buildings..... just an observation.

YOU may not have downloaded any of that but, if you have a weak password or NO password on your wireless, a neighbor may be getting onto your internet to do just those type of things. Even if you never used the wireless, it can very well have a default password on it. ie ADMIN. admin123 etc. Since you are not computer savvy, you would have no idea to check this, especially since you are not a thief nor using that part of the device, BUT hackers, and thiefs, look for exactly this kind of exploit to get into your access.

Make sure you have strong passwords on your routers, and wifi devices, even if you are not using it. Don't bother with the company that issued the notice, it's wasted energy, you need to talk to the internet provider who cancelled you, demand they tell you HOW your device was accessed. Ok WHICH computer downloaded it, was it wireless etc? They KNOW so don't let them try to hand you off on this.

Im sorry for your problems, but if you are using the same equipment to access the internet and there's an exploit on it, it'll only be a matter of time before it happens again.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with a teen in Mexico about 30 years ago. She was fuming that a telephone operator was giving her grief about a long distance call to her boyfriend. Don't remember the details but the upshot was, the family could loose their phone service on the whim of this bully. I remember thinking 'Thank God that could never happen here.' Welcome to the third world.
