Things you wish you could say

No wishing, I'm just saying it. And the only thing I'm venting here is admiration.

Some of our BYC members are so exhaustively helpful (in a good way!) and have such well thought out responses to questions. It's a very impressive interpersonal skill that not everyone's blessed with (ex. Even IRL, I tend to give very scattershot advice.)
That is so true. And what's amazing to me is, they share their knowledge and experience on here to complete strangers, for free. It just blows me away. They are awesome! ❤️

I wish I could say that after spending several hours replacing elements and thermostats in our 25 year old water heater, it works perfectly.

*calls plumbers*
I wish I could say "That wasn't so bad to fix, I'm glad I know how to sweat plumbing joints".

Bids to replace our hot water heater:

$2400 USD
$2600 USD
$1300 USD

All the exact same AO Smith 50 gallon heater, which sells on the Lowe's website for $659. All 3 are performing the same services (new shutoff valve, new drain pan routed to the outside (both required by updated building code) remove/replace/haul away.) All from reputable plumbers with excellent reviews. 2 of them are companies that have done work for the family before. (our HVAC guy and MIL's plumber).

Mercy. Based on the cost of the unit retail, I was expecting 1000-1500 range and prepared for that. Not well north of 2k.
