Think I found her a home.... :( UPDATE: Post 35

I think it's quite telling that more than one person came to the same conclusion about that add.

I think that before you let everyone talk to into being skeptical about the whole thing you should actually go down and see if this man will let you meet him at work. If he's really interested he will understand you suspicion and desire to see your dog go off to a good life. It would be a darn shame if your pup missed an oppourtunity like this because of a consensus on a chicken forum. Then n the other hand, if he is not able to prove to you that's he's for real, you've gained some knowledge on weedeing out craigslist frauds.

I had to rehome a dog once, it was the may devistating thing I've ever done. I found his current owner through a forum for his specific breed. Have you tried going onto a gsd forum and asking those people for advice?

Good points. I asked him what department he was with, what kind of training shell be doing, and what happens if she doesnt pass the traning.
He did give me his first and last name..
Hes not the first person to ask if shes a BM. Here are the pictures I included in the ad:

But this picture (not included in the ad..) makes me think different:

This seems weird to me, too..

If I were really a cop, I think I'd probably have said "I'm a (Sargeant/Leuitenant/Whatever) with the (_insert city name here_) Police Department's K-9 Unit and blah blah blah" or whatever.. The fact that he says a "police officer...in the area" is a bit vague.

I'd definitely do some double-checking on this. If it's legit, awesome! -- could hardly think of a better situation for her to go into, right?!?

Then again...the fact that it seems so perfect is also a lil' bit suspect.

Or, maybe it just means I'm super paranoid.

I can see where one would ask if your dog was a Belgian Malinois.

As for the police officer. Once you have his name, badge number and department, you could make a call to that department to verify that he indeed works there. That might be the safest thing to do.

I'm sorry that you are needing to find a home for your dog. Good luck finding something that you feel good about.

We decided to keep her but this opportunity popped up and if its legit I think it would be great for her... Its just heart wrenching

If I got it all, he asked sight unseen, if she 'had a lot of Belgian Malinois in her' because of the description of her as being a sharp hard dog. A knowledgeable dog person would not ask that.

A knowledgeable person might ask for her registration info, or if she is a purebred, registered German Shepherd, or if she was a cross. Would NOT ask if she 'had a lot of Malinois in her', because a knowledgeable person would ask if her sire or her dam was a Belgian Malinois and if she was a cross.

A knowledgeable person would not ask what he asked, partly because it indicates a bizarre idea about Belgian Malinois, as well as about GSD breeding and traits of working dogs in general.

Dog doesn't look anything like a Belgian Malinois, anyway. It looks like a German Shepherd.

Belgian Malinois is toward the bottom, but this is a very fun site as it shows the different types and contrasts them with Malinois and Dutch Shepherd:

Not someone I'd meet anyplace, especially not my place of work. Possibly at the K-9 unit where he claims he works, but only after he gave me the name of his commanding officer and I made an appointment with him. But like another person said, police dogs aren't usually acquired by individuals from ads like yours.

My first concern would be if he is legit, which I doubt. My second concern would be what happens if the dog flunks the class, which I would expect an older dog with her problems to do.

Also his use of u
The dog u have is high

Now some private security firms use k-9's. My friends dad had two he used for security.. You might see if your dog would work for a canine assisted therapy dog program, there are a lot out there and alot of those dogs are rescued/ shelter dogs!

have you got the persons email? if so pm it to me. there are a few spinoff's from a breeder/trainer in the area that try to pull dogs off CL, train them to attack ( or just make them crazy ) and then sell them as Personal protection dogs. They troll the GA CL sites.

If you really want to find a good home try petfinder and list her for a fee. . .
