If I leave a burning candle in my home it's always in th4e metal kitchen sink where if tipped over has nothing to catch on fire, usually if left unattended it is when I'm outside in the yard or on the porch so if something did catch likely I'd get to it anyhow.
That's a smart idea! The worst incident I've had with living fire was my coat's sleeve acting like a wick... let's just say I have a nice vest now.

All joking aside, it is a good idea to have the candle in a spot as such (the sink). Much safer than leaving it on a table.
I always like to have a window open, when burning one, for the sake of fumes, too.
